Sefer Devorim

Sefer Devorim

Our Rabbis tell us that Moshe Rabeinu gave us the previous four parts of the Torah, “mipi hagvura,” from G-d’s mouth, and the fifth and final part of the Torah, “mipi atzmo,” from himself. The meaning of this is as follows: From G-d’s mouth, so to speak, means that G-d transmitted the information to Moshe Rabeinu and Moshe Rabeinu put it in writing. The writing was free of any of Moshe Rabeinu’s perspective, it was a direct transmission. From Moshe Rabeinu…

Just Passing Through

Just Passing Through

Here the Alter Rebbe explains that life on Earth in a material body is a temporary thing. The main purpose of the soul is to be united with the Infinite.   Source: Likkutei Torah, Parshas Chukas, D.H. Oz Yoshir Yisroel.

Iggeres HaT’shuva: Chapter Nine, Tammuz 25, 5775

Iggeres HaT’shuva: Chapter Nine, Tammuz 25, 5775

Here the Alter Rebbe explains that higher level t’shuva (t’shuva ilaa) is a result of fixing things at their root. For example: the sin associated with young men “nicks” the mind, the correction and the t’shuva is to become engrossed in learning Torah (which comes from Chochma of Aztilus) and to double the quantity. Like kissing, where the breath of one united with the other, when we learn, our minds think G-d’s thoughts, our mouths speak G-d’s words etc. The…

Iggeres HaT’shuva: End of Chapter Eight, Shabbos Mevorchim Chodesh Menachem Ov, Tammuz 24, 5775

Previously, the Alter Rebbe explained to us how t’shuva tattoh (lower level t’shuva) is done. Now that the t’shuva tattoh is done and the clouds have been cleared,” we can engage in t’shuva i’la’ah (higher level t’shuva). This happens through becoming emotionally engaged in learning Torah, which is a woundrous union between G-d and Jew. The this emotional state during intimacy with G-d is a result of binah (analysis and contemplation) and is also results in the return of the…

Inspiration and T’shuva

Inspiration and T’shuva

The Rebbe Rashab explains in the first ma’amer of Samach Vov, that there is a difference between r’usa d’liba (awakening of the heart, inspiration) and t’shuva (return). He explains that the difference lies in the approach. Inspiration is a result of realizing that one is in the presence of something greater, namely G-d, and wanting to be a part of this greater being. T’shuva on the other hand is a result of realizing how far one is from G-d followed…

Wage War With Love (but first know who you love)

This sicha can be found in Likkutei Sichos, Cheilek Beis, p. 338 I. Bil’om and Amoleik It says in sforim(1), that there is a connection between Bil’om and Amoleik. The remez: If we write the names Bil’om and Amoleik on two lines, one above the other, the right half of the two words read (from the top down), “Bil’om”: the “beis-lammed” from Bil’om, and “ayin-mem” from Amoleik. The left side of the words read (from the top down: the “ayin-mem” from…

Neshoma Klollis (Core Soul) / Neshoma (Soul)

Neshoma Klollis (Core Soul) / Neshoma (Soul)

A neshoma klollis is the soul of the leader of any particular generation or the yechida, some say the chaya-yechida.  Let’s start with basics in Jewish soul-logy: 1. A soul is an extension from G-d (Tanya ch. 2) revealed (a little) in a body. 2. There are 600,000 general souls that split into 600,000 more souls and each gets a body. There are five degrees of the soul: 1. Nefesh, gives life to the body. This is the “lowest” or most external…

Sha’ar HaYichud V’HaEmuna: End of Chapter Nine; Rosh Chodesh, 30th of Sivan

Sha’ar HaYichud V’HaEmuna: End of Chapter Nine; Rosh Chodesh, 30th of Sivan

The Alter Rebbe explains in the note, that it’s because of the tzimtzum that there can be qualities and descriptions to Hashem. Since Hashem is beyond infinite (and even that description doesn’t cut it), the only way for there to be parts or descriptions, is the tzimtzum. How Hashem is one with His qualities, sefiros, etc., is belief. It is beyond human comprehension how He can be one with things that are separate entities,

Part Five: This Car Has Good Handling ה) וְזֶהוּ ״יְהִי הַוֲיֶ’ אֱלֹקֵינוּ עִמָּנוּ כַּאֲשֶׁר הָיָה עִם אֲבוֹתֵינוּ,״  This then is the meaning of, “May G-d, our G-d be with us just as He was with our forefathers.” דְּבֲּעַבוֹדַת הָאָבוֹת מּוּדְגָשִׁים שְׁנֵי עִנְיָנִים הַנִזְכָּרִים לְעֵיל The Forefathers’ service to G-d underscored the two types of humility we mentioned earlier (self-sacrifice as result of a decision vs. self-sacrifice as a result of being humbled by G-dliness).
